Some moments remind you exactly why you do what you do.
For all of us at Community Inclusion, this is one of those moments.
This week, we proudly opened the doors to our very first iRise residential home and welcomed our first participant. While it may look like a house from the outside, to us it represents something much bigger. It represents a fresh start, a safe place to grow, and another reminder that recovery is possible when people are surrounded by the right support.
There have been months of planning, conversations, partnerships, and hard work to make this day a reality. Seeing someone walk through the front door for the first time made every step worth it.
"Recovery is real. Independence is possible. No matter what challenges someone is facing or what diagnosis they have received, there is always hope — and there are always people willing to walk beside them."
A Home That Supports Recovery
Having a place to call home changes everything.
For many adults living with Serious Mental Illness, stable housing can be one of the biggest challenges they face. Without it, it becomes much harder to focus on mental wellness, maintain employment, build relationships, or simply enjoy everyday life.
A home offers more than four walls and a roof. It provides security. It creates routine. It gives someone a place where they can exhale, feel safe, and begin focusing on what comes next instead of worrying about where they'll sleep or whether they'll have the support they need tomorrow.
That is exactly what we hope this home becomes.
Recovery doesn't happen overnight, and it doesn't look the same for everyone. Sometimes it's taking the first step through the front door. Sometimes it's preparing your own meal, getting to work on time, reconnecting with family, or simply believing in yourself again. Every milestone matters, no matter how big or small.
More Than a Diagnosis
One of the things we believe most strongly at Community Inclusion is that a diagnosis should never define a person's future.
Every person has dreams, strengths, talents, and goals. Mental illness may be one chapter of someone's story, but it is never the entire story.
Too often, people living with Serious Mental Illness are told what they can't do instead of being encouraged to discover what they can. We want to help change that.
We see individuals with potential. We see future employees, neighbors, volunteers, friends, artists, parents, advocates, and leaders. Most importantly, we see people.
When individuals are given the right opportunities and surrounded by people who believe in them, incredible things can happen.
Celebrating a New Beginning
Welcoming our first participant into this home is a milestone we will never forget.
It marks the beginning of a new chapter for one individual, but it also marks the beginning of something bigger for Community Inclusion and the communities we serve. We hope this is the first of many homes, many success stories, and many opportunities to help people build lives they are proud of.
To our first resident, thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We are honored that you have trusted us during such an important season of your life, and we cannot wait to celebrate each milestone with you along the way.

Looking Ahead
While this home is our first, it certainly won't be our last.
Our vision has always been to create opportunities where people feel included, supported, and empowered to live the lives they choose for themselves. Opening this home is another step toward that vision.
We know there are still many individuals and families searching for hope. If sharing this story helps even one person realize that support is available, then this milestone becomes even more meaningful.
What is Kentucky's 1915(i) RISE Initiative?
The home we are celebrating today is made possible through Kentucky's 1915(i) RISE Initiative — which stands for Recovery, Independence, Support, and Engagement.
The initiative was created to help adults living with Serious Mental Illness receive the community-based supports they need to live fuller, more independent lives. Rather than focusing only on treatment, the program focuses on helping people achieve the goals that matter most to them.
Services available through the 1915(i) RISE Initiative may include:
- Housing and tenancy supports
- Supervised residential care
- In-home independent living supports
- Supported employment
- Supported education
- Medication management
- Case management
- Planned respite
- Assistive technology
- Non-medical transportation
Every participant receives a person-centered plan because every recovery journey is different. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and that's exactly how it should be.
As we celebrate this first home, we also celebrate what it represents: hope, opportunity, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to build a life they love.
This is only the beginning, and we are excited to see where this journey takes us and the many individuals we will have the privilege of serving in the years to come.
